THE BLACK ORANGE - a poem by Shehnaz Somjee

This is on the BMA’s ARM and was refused publication by the BMA news.

Bournemouth is bustling
In a July sizzling.
The centre is packed
As debates are cracked
By medical politicians.
Doctors with visions!
Jotted by journalists
Essentially supportists.
A show of democracy
But in truth autocracy
Or more so an oligarchy.
The agenda-focussed hierarchy.
Not all motions are debated.
Not all speakers are advocated.
Not all categories of doctors
Are permitted a representator.
The agenda is a foregone conclusion
Life, health, morals, ethics face execution.
Groups and caucuses
Cook fudges and gooses;
Vote to move to next business
So tread on another’s career interests.
Things are never what they seem,
Hidden conspiratorial teams.
The orange on the outside is orangy-red.
This orange in the flesh is satanic black.
